Carbon Monoxide Detectors
I was so glad to see them add these to the new building statutes for Georgia, so many people have lost their lives because of carbon monoxide and these simple devices could have saved them.
My grandfather fell victim to carbon monoxide poisoning many year’s ago so this is something near and dear to my heart. I have always recommended them but few people take the time to have them installed.
You don’t receive full protection from the ones you plug into the wall because, much like warm air, carbon monoxide rises rather quickly, and outlet’s are generally 18 to 24 inches off the ground. The plug in one’s are better than nothing but really offer more of a false sense of security than anything else.
The proper installation is for them to be in the ceiling where the gases become trapped, and the best installation would be to install them on line voltage with a battery back up, and to have them interconnected with your fire and smoke alarms so that if one goes off, all of them do.
Please if you haven’t done so already get them installed, for the safety of you and your family. If you need more information on carbon monoxide detectors call Lightning Bug Electric on 404-223-5274.
