We recently had an issue pulling a permit on a fire job that displaced a family. There was a fire in the rear exterior that melted some siding and did some minor damage to some electrical feeds. We went through the process of pulling a permit with the intention of getting the families power restored by Friday. We had only found out about the job Wednesday, secured the job Thursday and proceeded to pull the permit in Forsyth County.

We paid and got the permit number issued and thought all was well to get our inspection on Friday.

We called Friday morning to get a time commitment and were told that they had made a mistake, that the permit must go through the City of Cumming Permit Office. So we rushed down to pull the permit for City of Cumming and gave our explanation to the city of what had happened and they agreed to try and help us out by getting an electrical inspector to the property that same day.

We gave them our phone number and said to please call us with any questions because we were trying to get the power restored for these folks before the weekend.

Unfortunately the inspector went out and looked at the property and we were not notified of any issue and the inspection was not passed because the inspector couldn’t “gain access” to the meter on the exterior of the home. The inspector would have had to remove one screw to look at the meter, and the homeowner actually offered the inspector a screwdriver but the inspector refused?

Unbelievable, I think we All owe each other a little more effort to try and do the right thing and help each other out when we can. Shame on you inspector!

We managed to get everything sorted out ok and the power restored but these things can happen and it always helps to have experience working on your side when you are trying to get power restored as quickly as possible.
